Process/Activation

From Strategic Planning

In IRC office hours on 2010-05-12, during a discussion about getting volunteers to commit to tasks, a list of potential motivating factors for volunteer activation was drawn up. Here's a list of the motivating factors:

I'll do it if...

  • there are others involved
  • there's a sense of accountability
  • it's feasible
  • it's clear what skills are needed
  • someone else volunteers me
  • the goals are clearly defined
  • I know how much time I need to commit (and have it available)
  • you pay me
  • you make it fun
  • you convince me that I get power by doing it
  • you provide ways to work collaboratively
  • the tasks are bite-sized chunks
  • it's well defined, of quality, and meets the mission
  • someone else starts it and provides a framework
