From Proposal talk:Spreading Wikinews

There's already an Iphone app and a iPad app was proposed.

~~EBE123~~ talkContribs19:38, 17 October 2011

I don't own any Apple product so I cannot check. Is this application available in any language? Is it supporting commenting about news? Please could you link me the page about the app?

What about RSS? And Android, OpenMoko/SHR, ...? And social networking?

→ Airon Ĉ09:43, 18 October 2011

RSS is avalable, and Wikimedia is not for social networking.

~~EBE123~~ talkContribs10:40, 18 October 2011

Right, Wikimedia is not a social network... but the content is created by humans and these humans have relation between they. For example, "Wiki Love" tries to connect a user with other user to improve the human relationship and make a better experience to newbies or veterans users, because in discussion pages we have only "errors" notifications or bot messages, but we forget (in some place or time) that Wikimedia projects are constructed by humans. In some projects, the warning messages to users are distributed by bots in automatic mode (o scrpts), but if we can write a short sentence about the problem, we're encouraging a change in the user. Please, don't say "Wikimedia is not a social network", maybe this is not the goal, but we are making human relationships.

About the proposal, sounds interesting but, are we in conditions to publish our articles? and our articles, are they interesting to readers?. Another thing, in es.wikinews we have an user writing in twitter (no bot), we generate a RSS feed in Toolserver and facebook page that is connected with the twitter account, but our reader quota are not growing... maybe spread the words over social networks aren't to efficient :(.

Regards (and sorry for the extension or language, cooperate in other language is complicated)

@EBE123: Did you read before commenting? Could you create RSS feeds only for news about Politics? No. So, please comment seriously next time.

The blind leading the hopeful, but unknowledgeable.

Wikinews has the NewsFeed extension, which builds on DPL. If you want an RSS or atom feed of Politics and conflicts, even broken down to a country level, it's trivial.

Maybe, just maybe, spreading Wikinews would gain traction if you asked existing Wikinewsies what has been tried and didn't work. But, by all means, continue writing your own specifications for a round friction-minimising device.

Are you sure that Wikinews has the NewsFeed extension?

And please, avoid personal attacks. Thank you

→ Airon Ĉ10:41, 19 October 2011

You may ask at the english wikinews village pump.

~~EBE123~~ talkContribs10:43, 19 October 2011

I'm changing right now the proposal. Please write your opinion again :)
