| Will the analytics tool include individual page-view statistics? | 2 | 22:03, 19 September 2010 |
Would this tool give usability data on individual Wikipedia articles? I'm curious how much this new analytics approach will overlap with the function of http://stats.grok.se -- a tool for page view statistics used by many people on English Wikipedia. I've been developing a tool at http://toolserver.org/~emw/wikistats/ to augment stats.grok.se, but don't want to invest more time in something that will be obsolesced in the near future.
I can't speak for all projects, but an extension (or build in core function) that tracked pageviews on a per page basis would be great for Wikinews. The toolserver is intermittent at best. Currently we use an offsite stats counting tool, but it's not perfect, and has significant downtime.
I would strongly be in favor of WMF supplying per page view stats. Besides stats.grok.se there is the once very popular but now dead http://wikistics.falsikon.de/ (sources not available, author does not return calls) I don't think per page view stats falls within the scope of currently active developments. Right now there is an active initiative to incorporate and extend Open Web Analytics, with short term priority on using OWA for fundraiser.
