Privacy policy

Impact?

Belated answer: since the feature will be opt-in, it will certainly not have a negative impact on anyone. It will have some benefit to those that take advantage of it: making the login process a little more convenient. B Fizz 23:32, 11 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

User Experience

The OpenID community has been doing a lot of work in 2009 around improving the user experience which has resulted in dramatic differences in usage. See http://openid.net/2009/09/25/more-powerful-and-easier-to-use/.

Both ways?

Are we just talking about WMF providing OpenID to log into other sides, or are we also talking about using OpenIds from other sites to log in to WMF sites? Sonicsuns 16:45, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The software should let mediawiki be set up both ways with provision for the wiki to enable either or both with white lists or black lists.

I would advocate wikimedia projects are open to outside users - as a step between anonymous users and logged-in users. This would also make it easy for users to authenticate who they are - very useful for BLPs wanting to comment on their bio talk page. If there were problems then this could be limited to sites on a white list but pretty much any reasonable site should be added to the white list. We can even make the white list public so other wikis can use it.

I would also advocate wikimedia provide an OpenID service for our users to contribute to other sites but have their contributions tied back to there userpage here. This could be limited to a white list of approved sites if we found that was neccessary after trying it for a while.--Filceolaire 17:40, 2 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
