Proposal talk:WikiPals-A global brotherhood of Wikipedians

From Strategic Planning

Great idea. This idea has been implemented already five years ago. The Wikimedia Foundation exists, and has local chapters, so called Wikimedia chapters in over thirty countries and counting. On meta there is a page dedicated to discussing ideas for new chapters. What this proposal does highlight to me is that the WMF and chapters are not known to everybody, and that not everybody knows meta and the procedures there. What I've been saying is not like Chapters. It must be a common place for everyone to make friends. See my additional improvements to the page.Pasanbhathiya2 14:17, 20 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think that this is a great idea. I entirely support the request except for the part where we can make friends with each other. The reason why I have some reservations about it is that it would make WikiPals like a social network. This can be a 'distraction' for editors unless they know where their priority is. I would also like to add to proposal by suggesting that only active editors who have proven themselves trustworthy by having made constructive edits and have about 100 edits should be allowed to join WikiPals. The main reason is because people might just register for an account in Wikipedia for the sake of joining WikiPals. While this is not wrong, it defeats the purpose of the other projects. Just my thoughts. Bejinhan 09:42, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Name is kinda unfair

Can we not call it a "Brotherhood"? Howabout "Fellowship"? I'm pretty sure girls wanna be involved too. :/

Impact?

Some proposals will have massive impact on end-users, including non-editors. Some will have minimal impact. What will be the impact of this proposal on our end-users? -- Philippe 00:18, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
