It is quite ambitous starting your contributions with a new article. Lack of know-how and questionable relevance may not be the only problems. Many new articles are just redundant to existing ones. If the new article adds something, merging the two (or more) articles adds to the workload of the continuing authors (quite often, the newbie has left already).
