About Micenmen I an Australian guy, with diverse interests and varied background. Before my Internet addiction I used to read prolifically, particularly in the popular science genre. Needles to say I have benefited hugely from Wikipedia as many of us have, but I have not contributed much before and so noticing one of the calls for assistance: "Please help with the Wikimedia strategic planning process! Discuss the Strategy Task Forces' Recommendations", I decided to come and see if there was anything I can do. I have been a little timid with Wikipedia and only lightly edited once. I have heard some not so wonderful things about power plays and authoritarianism in the establishment. I also like to be very very sure of my facts, before I make a contribution anywhere. There is nothing wrong with being wrong, or laboring under a misconception, but, by the nature of Wikipedia the opportunity to be misinformed becomes viral. When no central authority owns knowledge, we are all a little more behooved to ensure the knowledge we share is accurate. I also love the general ideas that accompany open source and freedom of speech. I like to campaign against various forms of tyranny and speculate on lofty, utopian ideals of democratic liberty.

In my educational history, I have found I am much more enamored with principals, than I am with articles of knowledge to collect as just so many stamps. Collecting facts, is something a book (or an on-line encyclopedia) can be used for. Understanding principals and constructing patterns of inference about them, abstraction and suchlike, is the providence of the human mind. I cant hold very much in my little gray sponge, that's why I like Wikipedia so much. A vessel of unlimited size and a repository of knowledge I don't have to remember. I have been recently diagnosed with an attention disorder, my working memory has the half life of a cesium isotope and it's not much bigger. Anyhow I thought that helping in the discussion and process planing, might be a better place to contribute than editing of public accessible documents. So here I am.
