    Summary

Allow to put bibliographic information in an independent and conveniently searchable BibTeX database.

    Proposal

One could create a BibTeX-like database with entries that followed a well-defined format and could be used to generate HTML code for articles according to template information. The database would allow to access bibliographic information through a limited set of indices (e.g. sequential number, author name and id and literature reference abbreviation, digital object identifier).

A "Bibliography:" (WP:BIBL) namespace could map the database into MediaWiki as a namespace and allow editing of database resources as templates (but saving an entry would require the entry to contain only valid entries for a given template).

    Motivation

Make the use of bibliographic information more convenient.

    Key Questions

    • Is BibTex sufficient? What other information may be interesting?
