Proposal:Internationalise the Toolserver
This proposal is associated with the bolded strategic priorities below.
- Achieve continued growth in readership.
- Focus on quality content
- Increase Participation
- Ensure that the underlying project infrastructure is secure, stable, and sufficient to guarantee the permanence of the projects and support ongoing growth.
- Encourage Innovation
Summary
The toolserver is increasingly important for all kinds of functionality. It could be even qualified as essential. The value of these tools would be enhanced when they are also available in other languages. In order to achieve this the tools need to be internationalised and then localised
Proposal
Internationalise the Toolserver software and enable localisation at translatewiki.net. The issue to solve is both a way to reliably internationalise the TS tools but as importantly to provide timely updates of the localisations in these tools.
Motivation
The Toolserver tools provide efficient methods to deal with all the drudgery of a project. When these tools are available to all our projects in all our languages, there will be more time to actually write and improve articles.
Key Questions
- availability of developers willing to do the internationalisation
- availability of developers willing to maintain the localisations at translatewiki.net and commit the software to whereever.
- what infrastructure is needed to support so many individual tools
Potential Costs
No clue
