Proposal talk:Wikipedia Barbie

From Strategic Planning

Broaden this?

I think it would be great if we could reach out to the gender that least uses Wikipedia. But I'm not sure that this would do this, or that we've got quite the right age group here. What I think would be helpful for lots of pop culture articles would be to make clear to manufacturers that if they choose to release some packshots and promotional material under a free licence we are liable to pick that up and it will tend to improve the articles we use to describe their products. So to turn this into a strategy I think we should set out some guidelines as to how commercial organisations can more readily work with us. We may even get some companies to link to wikipedia descriptions of their products from their sites. I can see some reticence there from companies that want to control their image, but if we start with small and adventurous companies and ones that use us for links to their back catalogue I think there is an opportunity.
