Born in Newcatle upon Tyne in the UK in 1943, I am now retired and live in Luxembourg but also spend several months of the year in Denmark. I am fluent in English, French, German, Spanish and Danish and also have a good passive knowledge of several more European languages. My interest in Wikimedia and Wikipedia is based on some 30 years experience as a project manager at the European Commission, DG Information Society, where I managed projects in the areas of computerised language translation, and the use of information technology in connection with cultural heritage (libraries, museums, archives, music). I am also keenly interested in improving search in general, particularly for retrieving genuine information content rather than propaganda, spam, advertising or ephemeral resources. In this connection, I devoted several months to Wikimedia Search when it was lauched and still believe user involvement will ultimately be key in establishing access to the best resources.
