Sorry for that! Is our start-up going as it should? Or should we be more to the point? I mentioned some other task forces make weekly reports, is that also expected of us? Regards, Woudloper 07:27, 19 November 2009 (UTC)

Woodwalker07:27, 19 November 2009

Yes, weekly reports would be very much appreciated... it helps us to track what's going on. So far, I'm very pleased with the conversation you're having. And no worries on the name thing! :)

Task Force Volunteer/ Financial Sustainability

Hi philippe, I would like to Volunteer for the Task force on financial Sustainability. I have posted 3 proposal directly or indirectly related to the foundation's long term financial sustainability. The task force is listed as in the beginning stage on its page, if there is any need of volunteers or further support I would like to offer myself for further consideration. Thank you for your time and keep up the good work.

Theo1001100:30, 19 November 2009

Hi Theo -

The task force is, indeed, kicking off. I'll let Veronique know that you're interested. As always, any wikimedia volunteer is welcome to participate - please feel free to add your name to the task force and join in their discussions as they begin.

Thanks for your interest!

pt-br again

Phillipe.
I give up, this hierarchical system is not working, I've talked to Cbrown not changed at all. Not just me who I am saying, and you can see here another manifestation. I will not translate to not seem biased, try using a language translator, if you can not understand I translate. Who speaks Portuguese complains about the division, only people who do not speak Portuguese defend the division, I think there's something wrong. Think about it. I regret supporting this project by giving my opinion. Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton 02:06, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton02:06, 13 November 2009

Have you spoken with that user about the issue? I wasn't even aware of it until you told me.

-- Philippe02:08, 13 November 2009

There is no reason for me to talk to him, his opinion is my opinion, and several other speakers of Portuguese, but you do not take into consideration.

Rodrigo Tetsuo Argenton02:14, 13 November 2009

Another thing, look for example the main page in Portuguese ( "pt"), is in English, I'll have to change also pt-br, that is, two jobs to two pages the same.

2nd Main page redesign

Nice and bold! I like it! Sometimes less is more! ;) The Social template is the best at all!

Kozuch20:41, 29 October 2009

Thanks, Kozuch. Glad you like it! :) The social template is stolen from wikimediafoundation.org, which stole it from wikinews. :)

-- Philippe20:48, 29 October 2009

Now what we could do is replace the Participate template with something else. I would leave the current Participate tpl intact for use in other pages though, just format ist contents else for main page. I mean like not having its actual content stuck on right for instance... there is plenty room now for formating it differently.

Well, or we could do the current tpl else for all pages, I dont actually ming, as long as stones are rolling :D.

Kozuch20:53, 29 October 2009

Eugene feels pretty strongly about having a call-out box like that to draw peoples' attention - if you want to sandbox something, though, i'm sure he'll take a look at it :)

-- Philippe20:56, 29 October 2009

I think it only draws attetion as a bad design. I actually hated that box since it was introduced on Usability wiki... I can so so stand it here too.

Kozuch21:05, 29 October 2009

It doesn't have to be a call out box. It just has to clearly indicate how to participate. As Philippe said, let's get more ideas; we can always improve this.

Template:Recommendations

Template:Recommendations template is good but is it for new recomondations or for rephrase discussion which are completed ?210.211.241.140 09:26, 5 November 2009 (UTC)

210.211.241.14009:26, 5 November 2009

It was intended to serve as a template for task forces to provide their recommendations, but it could be used for just about any purpose.  :-)

Questions about weekly reports

I guess the weekly report from "ESP4 task force:Enhance Community health and culture" is due in the next couple of days. Is there a day of the week we should submit them? The only reports I can see so far are the China reports, like Task_force/China_Task_Force/Weekly_Report_01. I don't know whether those headings (which look good) are a template set down by you or whether they are what that particular task force has decided on, please advise: if they are a cross project template I'll populate our first report page with them.

Absent from that template is an area for the individual members in the task force to write their own piece on their individual activity. I personally would quite like to do that so when the report is submitted you can see whether we're going off on tangents; I have personal concerns that I'm not entirely spending my time the best way. I feel if all the task force members summarised their activity you could step in and guide anyone that's getting a bit lost.

Bodnotbod15:40, 2 November 2009

Hi - that's actually a template from the task force toolkit on the task force page; but you should feel free to adapt it to your own needs.

Set the due date as whatever is most convenient for your group.

I think the idea of individual summaries is a good one, if the time required to do that doesn't become prohibitive....

Taskforces

I originally said I wasn't keen on being on a taskforce, but I'm now happy to lend support ion the areas of technology, infrastructure, innovation and mobile technology. Is there an easy way of updating my prefs?

Gazimoff13:59, 17 October 2009

As far as I can see, there's no page for people who want to participate, but don't want to be on a task force. Maybe we should create a page for that? Regards,

ChrisiPK22:43, 17 October 2009

We should.

People should be discussing/creating content, regardless of whether they're officially on a task force. We need to make that more clear. Ideas?

Eekim20:33, 19 October 2009

How about creating Task force/additional volunteers or similar? We could make a few categories in which people could summarize with one or two sentences what they know about. When a task force is in need of an opinion on or futher insight into a special topic, they could invite some of those volunteers to, say, an IRC channel or an on-wiki discussion to clear up their questions. Volunteers should, of course, also be encouraged to participate in discussion about task forces related to the specialty and show possibly unnoticed problems or suggest improvements. Regards,

ChrisiPK22:20, 19 October 2009

Have at it :-) Good idea.

-- Philippe23:19, 19 October 2009

Sounds great. I work in the mobile/fixed oerator space as a designer, and the more I dig on this the more I feel I can lend a hand with strategy, design and innovation.

Gazimoff13:45, 21 October 2009

I've just created that page now with a first draft; suggestions and improvements are welcome. Also we should think about where we can link this prominently, so other people find it. Regards,

Be bold

Thanks for concidering my sanity. Earlier today indeed I thought something like it, until I saw Background which is a big part of the previous new mainpage. I am not sure though how long I wil continue in this pace. We all just keep on doing what is best for the overall process.

Hi Philippe, I assure you it's no problem. I remain a big fan of yours. I just felt I was annoying you due to the sigh, but it's no big deal, honestly :o)

Question on Liquid Threads??

Dear Philippe, well, I am beginning to understand a little bit of all this confusion. There is a team preparing the strategy talks of which you a are member, and there is a developing team, of which Fasten is a member. I put my comments here, on a developer thread, when they were meant for both the LiquidThread development team and the strategy talks team. I couldn't know where to put my comments because I was confused all the way round. The Strategy Talks pages were changed quite profoundly at the same time that the Village Pump pages were changed quite profoundly as well.

Let me try.

  1. You can't find the red links that I was hinting at. See Talk:Emerging_strategic_priorities/ESP_4_key_questions. I'm mainly involved in this section. The questions have all been split and on the Talk Page, all of those questions are assigned their own separate talk pages, since last week. However, none of them have been started yet, so they are all red links. That was one part of my comment: a week ago I tried to react to the the item "ESP-4 key questions" (you can still see it under Talk:Emerging_strategic_priorities/ESP_4_key_questions#Editor-to-reader_ratio. Now it seems I have to open 32 talk pages to start discussions there.
  2. Fasten doesn't understand what that comment is doing at this place. Well, I tried to put a question about the former in the Village Pump and found it completely reformed in a week, so much so that I couldn't find any place to put my question. The entrance was replaced to the backside, the bar was in the cellar and the toilet was somewhere outside. All of this was done in a couple of days time, so I didn't know better than to ask my questions in one batch. Now Fasten doesn't understand what I'm asking of him and you don't know what's the problem anyway.
  3. Please. You're mobilizing the worldwide community to help Wikipedia out on a 5-year project. This is a very complex problem. Is it too much to ask, not to complicate it any further by
    • changing the subject every three days and creating non-existing talk pages every week;
    • launching a brand new communications medium in beta format in the midst of the turmoil?

One small question I've asked is to open the text frame a bit more than six lines so I can read what I'm writing; even that seems too much to ask.

I have been informing my fellow Wikipedians on the Dutch wiki ever since this strategy project began, the enthusiasm has been less than halfhearted anyway (not to say cold), now don't make me have to tell them to run away from it as fast as they can.

- Art Unbound 23:07, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

P.S. I put this response about 4 times and always got the message "technical problems on this site", maybe this works.

It seems I'm asking several questions at the same time... maybe there are several topics at the same time?

Art Unbound23:07, 27 October 2009

Volunteer Results

Hi,

Have the taskforces results been announced. I have filled out the volunteer page to volunteer for the taskforce. I dont know if the results are out yet?

Thanks Philippe

Dear Philippe,

It was nice to respond to your Next steps! message. I just answered some of the questions.

Thanks for bringing it to my notice.

Love,

Main page redesign

Hey Philippe, Think the redesign goes in the right direction as does the "Next steps!" banner. Huge improvement! I would love for us to get folks to engage on the ESP content too, since there is valuable context there that folks can build on. Would be good to have navigation that points that way. Would also be good to encourage folks to help out the task forces by answering their questions OR linking their answers to task forces (so people can find their work and use it). More soon. Barry

BarryN04:26, 22 October 2009

Hi Barry! When you see opportunities to make these links, I'd encourage you to do so. Give it some time. As people have a chance to engage in content, they'll start seeing the connections to the other content and will start engaging with that as well.

And thank you for posting here. :-)

fixing up task force sidebar

yo, I love the new task force page -- very spiffy. It looks like there's a little disconnect b/t the template: Template:Sidebar and the page: Task_force? Sections are referred to as "ESP priorities" on the template but by name on the page, they should probably explicitly cross-reference to minimize confusion. I'd do it but a) I have to get something done at work right this minute and b) I don't want to screw it up :) will tackle tonight if doesn't get done beforehand. cheers --

Phoebe18:52, 21 October 2009

Good point. I've been in meetings all-staff meetings all day, and have limited time to work on this today, but if you haven't beaten me to it, I'll try to prioritize it for tomorrow (though I am, again, in meetings!)

ESP Key Questions

Hi Philippe. I notice you are adding/expanding introductions to the ESP Key Questions pages. When I commented about these earlier, what I had in mind but failed to actually mention was that names such as "ESP 1", "ESP 2", & etc. are not very descriptive. Even though there is a system-generated link to the parent page, a succinct statement of the topic area would be very helpful to those who are not task force insiders familiar with such jargon. ~ Ningauble 20:44, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Ningauble20:44, 21 October 2009

D'oh! I notice you already picked up on it before I posted this thread. Thanks, and never mind. ~ Ningauble 20:48, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Ningauble20:48, 21 October 2009

Yes, it occurred to me that was probably what you meant - and it's a good idea. Thanks for pointing it out!
