Goals

In the morning, the board went through an exercising of articulating its strategic goals. Here were the ones captured:

In the next 5-10 years, bring readers the tools to understand, evaluate, and effectively use our content in a variety of situations.

  • 2020, 1 in 2 web users have edited
  • 2014, 1 million contributors
  • 2013, 100 million content items
  • 2012, double our dwell time
  • 2011, inclusion in US, EU, UN goals for 2015 and 2020

2013 Wikimedia should have 5 full year lesson plans on a platform other than Mediawiki

Charter defines relevant players and their roles and responsibilities in the Wikimedia movement (WMF, chapters, other parts of the community) by 2011/2012 to enable us to achieve other goals.

Have built a resource primary reference source for 75% of the literate world by 2020

Foundation leads the community so that by 2012 we have 10 editors per 1 million speakers in 20 of top 25 languages in the world.

One billion readers by 2015, with greater or equal to 50% in developing world, 2 billion by 2020

Keep growth of our community and projects so that by 2015 we have same growth in language versions where we are doing well (German, English) and increased growth in smaller projects (Wiktionary, Swahili, Hindi).
