Preface

This proposal was originally written in English. Someone decided to replace the English version by text written in Portuguese with mix results. The original English version has been restored and the Portuguese version moved below so all English and non-English speakers can participate in the discussion. There seems to be something missing since there is no proposal template in Portuguese. Perhaps that's the problem to start with. Two sections remain to be translated in the Portuguese section: "Community Discussion" and "Want to work on this proposal?" The talk page is an awful mess. Someone else with more technical skills might want to try to straight it up.

Although this is a proposal and not an article, the text under the section Motivation reflects a partial reading of History and a political view which is not universally acceptable, as already discussed elsewhere [1]. Therefore, some changes were made to the text and its Portuguese translation (Motivação), in order to make it neutral and acceptable to all.

Summary

A Brazilian version of Wikipedia would allow for better acceptability among Brazilian visitors. Proposal

Proposal

Create a Brazilian Portuguese Wikipedia.

Motivation

Portuguese as spoken and written by Brazilians is different from the version used in Portugal, much more than American English is different from British English. Portuguese is also spoken, for example, in Angola and Mozambique (known in Portuguese as PALOPs - African Countries of Portuguese Official Language), as well as countless communities of emigrants, who speak Portuguese, all over the world. Even though all speak the same language, a specific Brazilian version would better suit the users within the country, avoiding cultural clashes and articles written in one way and another.

  • Qual a motivação real?

Custos potenciais

  • Perda de inúmeros usuários;
  • Perda de conteúdo;
  • Uso excessivo do server para agregar o mesmo conteúdo;
