Summary

We need a framework for interactive content in Wikipedia.

Proposal

Add support for an interactive web framework to MediaWiki. This framework would preferrably be open, making OpenLaszlo ([1], based on Flash) and Java ([2]) the most promising candidates.

Key Questions

  • Which framework best fits the interactivity requirements of an encyclopedia?
  • How can interactivity be used to improve encyclopedic content?

Potential Costs

Software developing costs only.

References

For an example proving that interactivity can greatly enhance encyclopedic content, see [3] (Java applets used to provide rotatable models of the polyhedron).

See Proposal:Foundations_for_Interactive_Articles for a more theoretical proposal with the same general idea of adding interactivity.
