This is my proposal for creating an all-music radio station on Wikimedia. Mr. Brain 00:05, 21 August 2009 (UTC)
I propose for Wikimedia to have a music station which allows users to listen to their favorite songs/artists over the internet. I think the station should be open and available to all users 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Part of this proposal includes giving the potential listeners the power to choose the songs/albums and artists they want to listen to.
If a person wants to listen to music over the internet, they should be able to choose what type of music they want to hear and what artists they like without having to worry about when a song would ever come up in a random sequence like on radio. The motivation is to let people listen to the songs they want whenever they want. People deserve the right to have choices, especially when it comes to listening to music.
Why settle for listening to a regular radio station and not be able to choose the songs you want? How many different music channels should be available to potential Wikimedia users/listeners? How important should variety be when it comes to choosing songs and artists?
Do we limit this to music that is not copyrighted such as late Victorian music hall, and non-commercial stuff on utube. Or do we license music commercially and then try to find a way to pay for it?
Starting up a radio network, having to download songs from albums or music-affiliated websites, creating an anti-virus system to prevent the station from suffering a deadly internet virus?
