Proposal talk:Hold a Wikipedia field day at Valley Heights Secondary School
Impact?
Valley Heights Secondary School is my alma matter and I graduated just one month before Wikipedia was established. Years later, I start thinking about the kids who want to use Wikipedia for research and Mrs. Graham (if she is still the teacher-librarian at VHSS - I don't know that part anymore) would try to prevent them from using Wikipedia for some odd reason. If there was a field day at my old high school with the local Wikipedians (who live within 100 miles of the school) showing off the articles that they created in front of the entire school, maybe the librarian and the staff would be willing to accept Wikipedia more. Think big
Let's take a step back and think strategically. It seems to me that the issue you're identifying is one of how to get secondary school students, generally, to be able to understand how to use Wikimedia projecs effectively and have their instructors accept it. So, rather than focusing on one tactical school, VHSS, I'd suggest that you broaden focus and proposal a strategic side to this. What about, for instance, proposing that Wikimedia create a program like this that goes into x number of schools per year, in various places? That way we're touching several metrics: quality of article, participation and reach, and even Wikimedia's communication strategy and external credibility. -- Philippe 04:24, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
- That sounds like an even better idea. Let's do that instead. GVnayR 23:11, 27 September 2009 (UTC)
