Wikis for local Original Research

In my experience deletion due to lack of notability is always related to lack of independent sources. I think there could be a place for wikis where people could collaborate on original research in local history: recording reminiscenses, publishing old title deeds, parishes records, even old company records.Filceolaire 15:43, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This proposal isn't undoable in principle I suppose (even though most Wikimedia wikis have a no-OR policy, the purpose of Wikinews is to concentrate on Original Research, so this wouldn't be the first OR project (only about 12% of the Wikinews articles are OR though)). I wouldn't want individual wikis though. That would create too much fragmentation. I'd like to see one central wiki that would concentrate on this type of thing. Maybe even a multilingual wiki to avoid the fragmentation and duplication of effort that we see taking place in places like wikipedia (why write 100 articles from scratch when you can just write one and then translate it 100 times?). I can see a wiki that concentrated on archiving local records and history of all towns, cities, villages, newspapers, corporations, charities, religions, etc as being an incredible research tool. If this could be coordinated and well implemented, I believe that it would see a lot of use. Gopher65talk 17:17, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Impact?

Some proposals will have massive impact on end-users, including non-editors. Some will have minimal impact. What will be the impact of this proposal on our end-users? -- Philippe 00:17, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
