Proposal talk:Wikipedians against Global Warming Foundation

From Strategic Planning

Impact?

Some proposals will have massive impact on end-users, including non-editors. Some will have minimal impact. What will be the impact of this proposal on our end-users? -- Philippe 01:14, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that a concerned group of Wikipedias should try to be more pro-active on getting more information to people's computer so they don't have to waste our natural resources getting to their local library to find out information. GVnayR 18:39, 6 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not relevant to an overall strategy discussion

This is not a bad initiative, but it's outside the mission of the Wikimedia Foundation. It would be great if a group of motivated Wikipedians wants to take something like this up, but it need not be a broad community effort. -Peteforsyth 18:43, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

As a holistic person, I believe that everything is interconnected to each other. When people use up the world's oil supply to loan outdated books from library instead of staying home and getting up-to-the-nanosecond information on Wikipedia, it hurts the environment just as much it hurts the person's true knowledge about something. Public libraries will be a thing of the past someday (except as a part of schools and universities) and it helps to know that if you can't walk to your information, you can seek it right at home with Wikipedia. GVnayR, in retrospect, what I said above applies to a number of the proposals here, and I'm not sure singling yours out was a great idea. I am also very concerned about global warming, and subscribe to holism myself...in the long run in this process, I think it's a good idea to focus heavily on developing a strategy for furthering Wikimedia's stated mission, but your point is well taken. It's probably a good idea to get a lot of stuff out on the table in the early stages, and consider it in terms of the overall project as we progress.
Regardless, I like your idea, and hope it finds some traction, whether it's here or through another process. -Peteforsyth 19:56, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for agreeing with my, Peterforsyth. We need to do more to battle global warming and climate change. GVnayR 03:08, 4 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
