Summary

This would ensure all future registrants are eligible for a universal login.

Proposal

A new feature for the WikiMedia websites would ensure all future registrants of WikiMedia or its sister sites are eligible for a universal login.

When a username is checked for availability during registration, all wikis would be checked, and if any wiki already had a user with that name, the name would be disallowed. Bob the Wikipedian 18:57, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Clarification: This would not create a universal login; it would only ensure that at a later date the user will still be eligible for a universal login. Bob the Wikipedian 05:13, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

Motivation

This would serve as a great means for both ensuring the eligibility for universal login preventing impostors as well.

Key Questions

Potential Costs

Would increase the strain on the servers as users register.
