Proposal talk:Global watchlists

From Strategic Planning
  • (in English) It is already possible to make a change of a watched page to cause an e-mail to be sent. But e-mail is not very convenient, and it would be good to have a page aggregating the watchlists of all the “other” (don’t forget that many users have more than one “home” project, and those projects may be very active), smaller and less active projects, whose watchlists often don’t change for weeks, but when they change, it is not convenient to await an e-mail message or to revisit that particular watchlist. Also, those who hadn’t been using the e-mail feature, and want to start using it, may have to enable it in tens of projects.

Impact?

Some proposals will have massive impact on end-users, including non-editors. Some will have minimal impact. What will be the impact of this proposal on our end-users? -- Philippe 00:18, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Workaround

Has someone tried to do Global watchlist (=joining watchlists from multiple projects together) on his/her own? Now Mediawiki provides RSS links even for watchlists, so aggregating these to an RSS reader could be interesting. I tried Google Reader but it displays them quite funny (by project, not time).--Kozuch 10:13, 11 December 2009 (UTC) So I find out that Google Reader works just fine finally. It just seeems to load content in certain time intervals that then screw up the timeline a little bit and one can not adjust this. Also, "diff" links are not provided in the feed, which I find bad.--Kozuch 16:49, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
