Proposal talk:Multilanguage categories

From Strategic Planning

I wanted to add this proposal by myself. At the moment Commons can only be used for very good english speakers and with the software there is no possiblity to achieve multilanguage. This feature would be open Commons for a great community.--Avron 18:36, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I also support this proposal. I think it is about having unique master category names in English and allowing to assign translations, which would be coupled with the language version of the whole site (if they were available of course).--Kozuch 08:33, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Some proposals will have massive impact on end-users, including non-editors. Some will have minimal impact. What will be the impact of this proposal on our end-users? -- Philippe 00:14, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Similar bug

This bug (bugzilla:5638) is mentioned on commons:Commons:Categories#Category_name to solve multilingual categories. I am not sure it is what this proposal is about though.--Kozuch 09:54, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That sounds like it, yes. I see the discussion has lasted from 2006 to 2009. What is the latest? Wknight94 18:37, 17 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing happens... Very sad, this is one of the most urgent features on Commons--Avron 17:09, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This is a very common problem for all Wikimedia projects. What I am trying to do is promoting Bugzill as I can linking bugs to specific proposals and encouraging people to vote for the bugs at Bugzilla... however I have no idea I votes are ever watched... :( --Kozuch 12:55, 21 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
