Proposal talk:Dump Task forces on this wiki and start real work ourselves

From Strategic Planning

Good idea. We also need ways to categorise proposals as rejected unfeasible and/or rejected undesirable. That way we can declutter the site somewhat and raise its credibility with visitors from other projects. WereSpielChequers 15:05, 2 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There's no bureaucracy. «The Task Forces described above will do their work openly on this wiki, subject to the same processes inherent in any open wiki. Anyone and everyone is encouraged to engage constructively in the work of the different Task Forces» (Task forces#Open Community Process). The proposer has very few edits here. My proposal is: start to work instead of saying that we should start to work. Thanks, Nemo 07:12, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My point is here - when Task forces will work openly, there is no point in having them. Is a Task force member someone "better" than a regular wiki editor? Sorry, but this whole Task forces stuff is a miss and discourages regular users from editing.--Kozuch 08:30, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kozuch, go to it then! Feel free to do work independently of this wiki and the task forces; it's never been required that all strategic planning originate here. If you do your own planning and come up with good ideas, present them! No one is suggesting that this is the only venue for planning, it's just a venue for planning, in a single form that works for some people. The Foundation, as a business entity and under the direction of the Board of Trustees, has chosen to pursue this method. If there's another form or format that works for you, have at it. I wish you the best, and will watch with interest. No one is being forced to join a task force. No one is being forced to submit proposals, and no one is being forced to do things "our" way. In fact, we encourage people to be involved in planning in whatever method works best for you. But I would ask that, just as we recognize this method may not be right for you, you recognize that work is being done in this method and it does work for some people. Please honor that. -- Philippe 08:54, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

to be clear, when there is an extra layer of formality (e.g. in the task forces) it is difficult to know how to begin working independently, when one both wants to be constructive and also respectful (so not stepping on the toes of people on the task forces). It should be made clear how to work independently on the wiki and with the task forces. -- Phoebe 23:01, 7 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Phoebe. I want to contribute but the task forces are layer of formality. I (stupidly) just stuck my name do as a member of a task force and was told I had to apply as a volunteer, although I was welcome to contribute anyway. So I applied and... nothing seems to be happening with the task force and I don't want to step on toes, so I am just waiting unsure what to do next. --Alchemist Jack 18:29, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

I removed the delete tag as I think this proposal raises important questions. We want people to be involved and contribute to the project, and how to we encourage particpation at present? Task forces. Are these the best way to increase particpation or should a suck-it-and-see, spaghetti management approach be taken, enable greater participation and let the strategy be created on the fly.--Alchemist Jack 20:24, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
