Acronyms intrigue and inspire discussion. They're fun and memorable too.

Acronyms intrigue and inspire discussion. They're fun and memorable too.

I was thinking that the movement needs some snazzy acronyms to intrigue and inspire discussion. So I boiled each movement priority down into one word.

Growth Diversity Participation Infrastructure Innovation

Gidip... nah

Dipgi... no

Digip... nope

Digi Participation... lame

Diigp... weird

Diip G... umm

Diip Growth ftw Pronounced "deep growth"

In general what are we trying to do? We're trying to grow. How are we going to grow? We're going to grow deeply.

Diversity Infrastructure Innovation Participation

1. Encourage Diversity 2. Improve the Infrastructures 3. Encourage Innovation 4. Increase Participation (readership and contributors)

We want more people participating (that is people reading/benefiting and people writing/contributing), more diversity all on a better technology platform in an atmosphere that nurtures new ideas.

Here is to diip growth.

My first reaction to this was to groan. My second reaction? "This is actually pretty good."

To DIIP growth! :-)

Hey thanks!

When articles in the popular press talk about Wikipedia as being difficult to read, those articles are referring to things like "2.3 Encourage community growth by reducing hazards at all stages in the editor life-cycle"

It's currently uninteresting and unapproachable

1 A Theory of Change

2 Movement Priorities

2.1 Maintain Strong Growth in Readership

2.2 Value, respect, and strive for diversity in editors

2.3 Encourage community growth by reducing hazards at all stages in the editor life-cycle

2.4 Stabilize the Infrastructure Underlying the Projects

2.5 Encourage Innovation

If I ruled the world, it would read like this.

1 Imagine

2 How are we going to get there?

2.1 Encourage Diversity

2.2 Improve the Infrastructures

2.3 Encourage Innovation

2.4 Increase Participation

2.4.1 Increase Readership

2.4.1.1 The Goal

2.4.1.2 Africa

2.4.1.2.1 The Goal

2.4.1.3 Asia

2.4.1.3.1 The Goal

2.4.2 Increase Contributors

2.4.2.1 The Goal

2.4.2.2 Reducing hazards at all stages in the editor life-cycle

I love this as an outline for the final Strategic Plan. I think these priorities/goals are the answer to, "Where are we going?" rather than how, although that's a quibble.

Can you edit Strategic Plan accordingly? Thanks!

Eekim22:30, 4 May 2010

I'm confused. The strategic plan seems bigger than "Strategic Plan/Movement Priorities" page. I got scared.

This is Happening23:01, 4 May 2010

The priorities are really the main thing that we as a community should get rough consensus around. The plan as a whole includes lots of context.

The content of the Strategic Plan page is a straw man outline. Feel free to be bold with that page; I'm sure it will evolve quite a bit in the coming months.

Eekim23:12, 4 May 2010

So does that mean that I can be bold with http://strategy.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategic_Plan/Movement_Priorities ?

This is Happening23:15, 4 May 2010

Absolutely. Understand that others (including myself) will likely be bold back. :-)

Eekim23:20, 4 May 2010

Okay great thanks! :-)

I just rearranged the strategic plan. Hope I didn't makes things worse. How does one make sub points? I don't know how to achieve

2.4 Increase Participation

2.4.1 Increase Readership

2.4.1.1 The Goal

2.4.1.2 Africa

2.4.1.2.1 The Goal

2.4.1.3 Asia

2.4.1.3.1 The Goal

2.4.2 Increase Contributors

2.4.2.1 The Goal

2.4.2.2 Reducing hazards at all stages in the editor life-cycle

I'm really liking the re-organization! Thanks for taking this on.

You can make subpoints by specifying headers and subheaders. For example:

== Increase Diversity ==

=== The Goal ===

will give you:

1. Increase Diversity

1.1. The Goal
