Welcome to the Wikimedia Foundation's strategic planning process. We appreciate your interest in taking part. You can start by reading our Community guidelines. Check out the links on the Main Page and find an area that interests you. Please feel free to ask me any questions, or you may leave a message on the Village pump.

It's time to answer some questions! Would you check out the list of questions that were submitted by the community and others and try to answer some? -- Philippe 01:40, 22 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the new graph

Hi, Henk. Thanks for your new graph, it is better than my version. And I had tried to draw one similar to yours by OpenOffice but failed to draw the overlap effect, maybe I use the wrong tools. Thanks again. Mountain 17:03, 24 October 2009

Thanks

Am I driving you absolutely nuts with the main page? Thanks for all that you do to keep the wiki going. -- Philippe 22:20, 30 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Translation of MediaWiki:Sitenotice/ja

I'd like to translate "We have some questions that need answers. Can you help?" at MediaWiki:Sitenotice/ja but I can't do it because "no permission". How can I get the permission?--Bletilla 12:31, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

You can ask permission at Strategic Planning:Administrators/volunteers. Alternatively you can ask me or in the Village pump to update MediaWiki:Sitenotice/ja for you. HenkvD 12:41, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I'll ask permission at Strategic Planning:Administrators/volunteers. --Bletilla 21:02, 1 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Autotranslate

You could add Yahoo babelfish to the {{Autotranslate}} template:

<script type="text/javascript" charset="UTF-8" language="JavaScript1.2" src="http://uk.babelfish.yahoo.com/free_trans_service/babelfish2.js?from_lang=en&region=uk"></script>

People would be able to translate the pages that haven't yet been translated and might be motivated to improve the automatic translation. --Fasten 14:19, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

I will concider to do something like it. Translation by Babelfish or Google translate is not used on Wikimedia projects yet, at least I have not seen it. HenkvD 15:53, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Put me down as "opposed" to that... when we've used auto-translation, we've caught a serious amount of flack from native speakers. -- Philippe 20:48, 19 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Autotranslate not working with LiquidThreads

The LiquidThreads discussion has disappeared from the Village pump. Apparently this change does not make the connection to the LiquidThreads portion of Village pump/en because it is stored separately from the base page and linked only is some sort of metadata.
Oh the joys of being a beta tester! ~ Ningauble 16:42, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

It works fine for me. What is your preference language? HenkvD 16:46, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Sorry you are right. It looks like the LiquidThreads are not be included. HenkvD 16:52, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

The Autotranslate was used for this Village Pump as well, but as User:Ningauble noticed this does not seem to work. I tried to upodate Autotranslate by replacing inclustion of a page by redirect to a page. Unfortunaltely this does not work. At least I could not get it working. I just reverted Autotranslation of the Village pump. It should be working now. HenkvD 18:37, 14 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Wiki Maintenance

HenkvD, you are an absolute gem. Thank you so much for your ongoing wiki maintenance. This is the sort of work that makes wikis tick, and it's often invisible to others. Thank you again! --Eekim 20:20, 19 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

+1. -- Philippe 20:48, 19 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Autotranslate

Henkvd, would it be possible to add a template to any page using "autotranslate" that tells you what to do to edit page content? As it is, i you don't just "know" to put an /en on the page and then edit that one, you aren't able to. Can we add instructions to any page that is using autotraslate? Thanks! Let me know if we need a bot to do it or something...-- Philippe 15:27, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

PS - you've also got the ability to add the flood flag to yourself now: when you're doing lots of repetitive things that would flood recent changes, you can go to Special:Userrights and grant yourself "Flood". When you're done, ungrant that so you're transparent again. -- Philippe 18:06, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, I will certalinly use it HenkvD 18:45, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

About explanation of "autotranslate": You don't need to add /en to the page but you can just click on the language link for the subpage (english or so) although you were seeing the text in that language already. I will add a first instuction at Background. Feel free to update it. If ready it can be added to all "autranslate"pages by a bot. HenkvD 18:45, 24 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

Please create three new message for sidebar items:

Done. HenkvD 18:53, 7 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

Getting even more involved

Hi HenkvD,

Thanks for all of your contributions to the strategy wiki to date! The strategic planning process wouldn't be where it is today without all of your help. The time that you put into organizing the wiki and keeping us true to style and format has been appreciated so much...

We're about to move into the third and final phase of the process, and in many ways, this will be the most challenging. I'm hoping you will continue to be an active presence in shaping the movement's five year strategic plan.

Here are some concrete suggestions as to how you can help moving forward:

  • Add your name to Strategic Planning:Hosts. This just formalizes what I think has been true all along; that you care about this process, and that you're doing what you can to help it along moving forward.
  • Help organize and improve this wiki! Starting next week (January 18, 2010), we're going to be encouraging many more people to come participate, and we want to make sure this wiki is as presentable as possible. A comprehensive list of things to do is at Strategic Planning:To-do list.
  • Invite people to participate! Encourage volunteers to discuss Task force/Recommendations.
  • Finally, we need to clearly describe what this final phase is going to look like. In particular, we could use feedback and discussion on Strategic Planning:Decision-Making.

Let me know what you think! Many, many thanks! ~Philippe 00:33, 12 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Doing... I try to keep up with all these changes, but it is hard. HenkvD 23:36, 12 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Flood flag

I flood flag'd you :) ~Philippe (WMF) 20:06, 19 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wikimedia Foundation/Feb 2010 Letter to the Board

Hi Henk -

I'm in the process of getting a few pages (listed at Strategic Planning:Translation) ready for translation, and I'm not sure I'm setting up the templates correctly. Can you double check me? For instance the one at Wikimedia Foundation/Feb 2010 Letter to the Board appears to be screwed up. Thanks! ~Philippe (WMF) 21:57, 21 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Done. Namespace should have been added. HenkvD 07:59, 22 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks

Thanks for re-categorizing the LPTF. We would love your participation if you have the time! Keegan 21:21, 2 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Call for action/nl

Hi Henk! A while ago you changed a category on Call for action/nl, which I wrote. Have you read it through? Would you mind proofreading it? If you think it's good enough, then I guess you can flag it as "ready" on Template:Translation/Call for action?

Note that, because I didn't want to repudiate the source text, my approach while translating was pretty source-centered. This resulted in a very literal translation, which could make the tone a bit stiff.

Vriendelijke groeten, Face 12:20, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Bedankt voor de vertaling. I just updated the status to ready. I read the text then and found the text was good enough. It is indeed a bit litaral, but I can't improve it, as I am not a good writer myself. HenkvD 15:25, 9 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
